Where was this feature in 1996?

Thanks to a new GoogleMaps feature which lets you drag and drop if you want to change the route to your destination, I have recreated (approximately) my first cross country road trip:

It's not perfect because we actually went eleven thousand some odd miles, and this trip is only nine thousand some odd miles... but it's pretty darn close.

I {heart} Google.

  1. Heh, you skipped cultural backwaters like Chicago and NYC so you could hit EVERY STATE IN THE SOUTH! I love it!

Seriously, though, looks fun. Maybe it was in the winter months? You head south fast and it's warmer down there, obvs. Hopefully you got some good BBQ!

  2. We hit those on the second and third trips. :) In one way or another I have been to 42 of the 50 states. And now I've even been to Puerto Rico!

  3. Oh - and no, that first trip was in July. In a 1975 Ford F250 with no air conditioning. Sometime around Colorado we actually had to turn the heat on to keep the truck from overheating. It was FUN.
