Mmmmm coffee.
Today is the first day in a week that I've been able to get up and immediately enjoy a cup of coffee. All week I've been going straight to the gym so the coffee intake was delayed by at least 2 hours.
I also slept until 9:30, which is probably going to screw up my whole sleep cycle but I REALLY DON'T CARE. It was truly lovely.
This marathon training is for the birds. Actually, the birds are probably smarter than us crazy humans.
This is why -diety- invented coffee shops! I pick up a double espresso every Sunday morning before spin. I really don't know how I could do it without the coffee.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this is around 7:15 am, the only coffee place open has a green and white logo.
If you Google around there are actually some articles on how coffee supposedly enhances the benefits of the workout.
I dunno, it just seems wrong to jack up your blood pressure and then work out for an hour... But I will Google. Anything to get my fix earlier. Maybe with coffee you can skip the 5-10 minute warmup because it might accomplish the same result? (That's my least favorite part.)
ReplyDeleteI'd feel worse if I was drinking _extra_ coffee for the workout, but I don't notice a higher pulse rate, just perhaps faster ramp up to that rate (which seems to be what you're looking for, but I don't skip the warmup entirely ... first part is always hardest no matter what I put in my body). Anyway, keep in mind two espresso shots is half the caffeine of a 12 oz coffee, so your milage may vary (my source on that is a recent National Geographic I read in a waiting room, seemingly corroborated just now by http://www.uhs.umich.edu/wellness/nutrition/caffeine.html#contents )
